Welcome! I'm Laura Shears, a queer and disabled writer, researcher, and educator living in Asheville, NC.
I have an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. I had a fifteen-year career in adult and higher education as a college instructor and administrator. My own experiences as a queer and disabled yoga teacher and practitioner led to the inquiry that eventually became my research monograph, Queering and Cripping the Yoga Body. In my analytic work, I examine the normative ways that we currently teach and practice yoga, as well as the ways those norms constrain both the bodies of yoga practitioners and the practice itself. |
